Medieval Readings:
Three Myths About the Middle Ages

The title should really be two Myths and a Warning against Generalisations but that seemed a bit clumsy! Unlike other Readings there are no teachers’ notes at the end – the main point to make is to discuss with students how this information fits with their preconceptions of medieval life. Would they have believed these myths before reading these pages? This in turn means not using this before students complete the questionnaire in Section 1 (HERE …) about their ideas about the Middle Ages. Secondly, the passage about travel works well when read aloud as that accentuates the rhythm.

There were many other topics I could have included so there will be more Myths in later Readings.
